1969-70 O-Pee-Chee Danny Grant #125 Rookie Card Calder Trophy Minnesota North Stars GOOD 2 The 1969-70 O-Pee-Chee Danny Grant #125 Rookie Card Calder Trophy Minnesota North Stars GOOD 2 is one of the most historically interesting North Stars cards in the set, celebrating a young scorer immediately after his award-winning NHL breakthrough. The card front identifies him as Dan Grant and pictures him in full green, gold, and white Minnesota equipment, crouched over his stick beneath the original North Stars logo. Catalogues and collectors generally know him as Danny Grant, the name used throughout his career, making this card an essential rookie for player collectors and fans of Minnesota’s expansion-era stars. Grant arrived in Minnesota after appearing with the Montreal Canadiens and being part of the organization during Stanley Cup championship seasons. Given a larger role with the North Stars in 1968-69, he produced 34 goals and 31 assists for 65 points in 75 games. That performance earned him the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie, and the bilingual card back proudly calls him Rookie of the Year. Grant became the first player from a West Division team to win a major league trophy, an achievement that gave the young North Stars franchise immediate credibility. He went on to appear in three consecutive NHL All-Star Games, became a reliable 30-goal threat in Minnesota, and later reached 50 goals in a season with the Detroit Red Wings. Across 736 NHL games, he scored 263 goals and recorded more than 500 points. The reverse of card 125 is also notable for its outlined space inviting the collector to place a Dan Grant stamp. This is an original Canadian O-Pee-Chee release with English and French bilingual text and Printed in Canada on the side. It is not a puzzle back. The stamp space is part of the original printed design and is empty. The front is reasonably centered at about 52/48 from left to right and retains attractive colour. Every corner shows rounding and fibre wear, with pronounced softness at the lower-left and upper-right. Visible diagonal wrinkles or creases affect the upper-right corner and lower border, while scattered scuffs and fine scratches cross portions of the image. Chipping is present along the top and bottom cream edges. The reverse has extensive web-like creasing across the upper blue field, additional wrinkles near the lower-right corner, rounded tips, and whitening around the perimeter. Surface abrasions and small age spots are present, but the biography, stamp box, statistics, and bilingual printing remain legible. Some glare and hairlines may come from the protective sleeve, yet the repeated structural wrinkles support a conservative GOOD 2 estimate. The strong rookie subject, Calder Trophy connection, complete presentation, and clean stamp space preserve substantial collector appeal despite the wear. This is a value-oriented vintage rookie that tells the story of one of Minnesota’s first major award winners in a single, colourful piece of cardboard. Grade Estimate: GOOD 2
