Description

1969-70 O-Pee-Chee Leo Boivin #122 Minnesota North Stars VG-EX 4 The 1969-70 O-Pee-Chee Leo Boivin #122 Minnesota North Stars VG-EX 4 card captures one of professional hockey’s most respected defensive enforcers during the final chapter of his distinguished NHL career. Boivin appears in Minnesota’s classic green uniform, leaning forward with his stick and wearing the captain’s letter that reflects the leadership he brought to the young North Stars franchise. The clean photographic composition, prominent team name, vintage skate graphic and circular defense designation give this card the unmistakable visual character of late 1960s hockey collecting. Born in Prescott, Ontario, Boivin built his reputation as a compact but exceptionally powerful body checker. He played more than 1,100 regular season NHL games and became best known for his long tenure with the Boston Bruins, serving as team captain and earning the nickname The Bouncer for his punishing defensive style. He also represented the Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins and Minnesota North Stars. His lasting importance to hockey was formally recognized with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1986. This Canadian O-Pee-Chee issue is especially appealing because its reverse contains English and French biographical text, Canadian printing information, career statistics and a bilingual cartoon. It is a standard biography and statistics back, not a puzzle back. The reverse notes Boivin’s physical reputation and presents his career totals through the 1968-69 season, adding period context that modern retrospective cards cannot reproduce. Collectors of Hall of Fame players, Minnesota North Stars memorabilia, Boston Bruins legends and original Canadian hockey cards will find several attractive collecting angles here. The photographed card displays visible rounding and softening at all four corners, with the lower corners showing the strongest wear. The cream borders exhibit age toning, scattered print marks and light edge chipping, particularly along the bottom and right edges. Centering is moderately shifted toward the right, leaving a wider left border, while the top and bottom proportions remain reasonably balanced. The front image retains appealing colour, although small surface specks and light handling lines are visible. No unmistakable full card crease is confirmed from the photograph, but the sleeve and scan can conceal fine wrinkles or pressure marks. The reverse has edge wear, corner softness, age-related discolouration and a small amount of surface abrasion near the perimeter. A conservative VG-EX 4 estimate is appropriate because the card remains complete and visually attractive but has enough corner, edge and centering wear to prevent an Excellent or higher assessment. The card is ungraded, and the estimate is based solely on the supplied photographs rather than an in-hand professional examination. Grade Estimate: VG-EX 4
