1971 O-Pee-Chee Partridge Family #32 "Mother of the Group" Shirley Jones Puzzle Back Yellow Series 1 Card #32, "Mother of the Group," gives Shirley Jones her moment in the spotlight with a warm, close-up smiling portrait that captures exactly why she became such a beloved presence on 1970s television as the widowed matriarch holding the fictional Partridge band together. Jones was already an established Hollywood name by 1971, an Academy Award winner for "Elmer Gantry" a decade earlier, and her casting brought genuine star power and credibility to a show that could have easily been dismissed as lightweight teen fluff. Instead, The Partridge Family became a genuine ratings hit for ABC and a cultural touchstone of the era, and this full 55-card yellow-bordered set built out cards for the entire cast, not just teen idol David Cassidy. The reverse of this card belongs to "Puzzle No. 2," a segment of the larger composite jigsaw image spread across select cards in the series, a classic mid-century trading card mechanic designed to keep young collectors buying pack after pack. This is the O-Pee-Chee issue, marked "Ptd. in Canada" at the bottom of the reverse, generally scarcer on the secondary market than the standard U. S. Topps release. this example shows more honest, visible wear than others in this listing batch, and we want to be upfront about it. The top-left corner has a distinct chip with noticeable whitening, and the entire left-hand edge shows rough texture and whitening consistent with sheet or box handling over the decades. Centering is also noticeably off, with a wider yellow border on the left side compared to the right. That said, the surface itself remains free of creases, tears, or writing, and the image is bright with no fading or staining, and the reverse puzzle segment is fully intact. Given the corner chip, edge wear, and off-center print, a conservative raw grade of VG-EX 4 is the honest assessment here, a great budget-friendly entry point for collectors who want Shirley Jones represented without paying premium pricing. Grade Estimate: VG-EX 4
